X24 AND MAGICTOFU ANNOUNCE NEW MIXTAPE ‘2Hip4AMixTape’ RELEASED

Rapper X24 and Producer/DJ magictofu will release their new mixtape, 2Hip4aMixTape on Tuesday, December 22. The mixtape follows X24’s debut single, Hipster Apocalypse, released October 30 of this year and his accompanying video of the same name, released November 7.

The mixtape samples heavily from contemporary music that both artists enjoy, ranging from Indie Rock to Trap, with some mainstream Hip Hop thrown in. “When Hip Hop was still in its foundational stages, Herc and Bambaataa and the other pioneers were looping the breaks in relatively contemporary music of that era,” said X24. “Somehow, though, Hip Hop’s musical vocabulary never moved much beyond the late 70’s and early 80’s as viable material for samples. Magictofu and I have been talking for a long time about wanting to make a mixtape that was steeped heavily in the tradition of Hip Hop, but in a more contemporary aesthetic and sonic vernacular.”

The mixtape is the first released collaboration for X24 and magictofu. The pair have been friends for years, and have frequently worked on live collaborations. “We’ve always loved working together, but we’ve never really focused on creating something more substantive until now,” said magictofu. “Now that we’ve done it once, though, we both plan on continuing to work more together in the future.”

The mixtape features collaborative verses from Nick Furious and Brother Justice. It had a pre-release party in Albuquerque, NM on December 13, 2014. The official release is Tuesday, December 23.
